The ever first time I decided to go snowboarding with Zane. At this point he is still a beginner but a good one. Zane took my to Loveland for snowboarding and it is about an hour from Denver.
We got my rentals from Christy's Sports and for helmet, boots, and board was about $50. The guy there was so nice and hooked us up with some discount. As for my outfits, I decided to buy from 2nd Time Sports in Northglenn.

If you ever snowboard/ski in Colorado, you have traveled on I-70 and know how backed up it will get! Highly recommend coming to the ski area a bit earlier than opening time and leaving around 2ish. This way you avoided the travel from all the resorts on that highway after closing.
Now at this time we did not have the Ikon pass yet so we purchased our tickets online at full price. The prices here are pretty much the same at other resorts we have been to.
The Resort
Colorado is known world-wide for its light, fluffy powder and not many places get more of it than Loveland Ski Area. Loveland average of over 35 feet of snow every season, more than any Front Range or Summit County resort! All this snow allows us to be one of the first in the nation to open and one of the last to close each season.
As a beginner, Zane taught me off to the side of the lifts. We had plenty of room and there was a slight decline that stimulated a mini slope. It was better than going to Loveland Valley at that time since we parked in the Basin area and did not want to walk all the way over there. Zane had faith that I would be able to pick it up quickly so we choose training over by the lift area.
Beginner Tips:
If I could go back in time and tell myself this, I probably wouldn't have quit so early on, haha.
- You will fall, a lot! Own it and just get back up. Everyone falls. It's not embarrassing, it's natural.
- The lifts are not as scary as you think. It's easy to get on. When preparing to get off, you want to shift your body at an angle so that your snowboard is straight and you want your back foot to be unstrapped and on the board. You will want to "ride" off the lift. And as a beginner, you will fall (like I did!).
- Your legs will burn like crazy. Be prepare for that and try not to be the driver going back. You will be extremely exhausted.
- STAY HYDRATED!!!! It doesn't matter if you don't feel dehydrate, you will start to get light-headed really fast. Try drinking water every hour if possible.
- Watch some YouTube videos prior to going. You won't understand it until you are actually doing it, but at least you will get the hint.
- If you decide to hit the slope for the first time, just know that it is okay to walk down the mountain. Yes, I said walk down the mountain. If it seems to hard or even scary, just unstrap and walk down. Do not push yourself if you are truly not ready.

- Do you have to make reservations for parking? No, you do not need to make a reservation for parking. Parking is available on a first come, first served basis.
- Is there food there? Starting 2/12/2021 Food & Beverage service will be available in the Basin & Valley cafeterias. Bar service will be available at the Basin Wedge Bar.
- Is there ski lessons? Yes, all reservations must be made in advance.
- What is the difference between Loveland Valley and Loveland Basin? Loveland Valley is a separate area just for beginners. Loveland Basin is the main area and offers a wide variety of terrain.
- Is there transportation available? A FREE shuttle service is provided between each area from 8:00am to 4:15pm

While this is true every season, we will have to make some operational changes this season to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
